About

Stephan obtained a Master’s degree in Human Medicine from the University of Zurich and qualified as a medical doctor in 2017. Following his studies, he joined the Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge, UK for a PhD in radiology. His work focused on molecular and physiological MRI of renal cancer. Amongst other techniques, he used hyperpolarised 13-C-Pyruvate MRI to investigate tumour metabolism and identify correlations with molecular tissue biomarkers from multi-regional tissue samples. He was involved in neo-adjuvant, single- and multi-centre trials for renal cancer where advanced MR imaging was used to identify companion imaging biomarkers for novel treatment options. He completed his PhD in 2021. After his PhD, Stephan joined the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital of Tuebingen, Germany to undergo speciality training in radiology. His clinical training focused on oncological and hybrid imaging and he developed a keen interest in abdominal imaging with a special focus on genitourinary imaging. In his research, Stephan focused on the acceleration of prostate MRI using AI image reconstruction and multi-parametric MRI to detect early treatment response or failure in patients with renal cancer. Stephan has joined the Department of Radiology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute as a research fellow in imaging cancer, supported by the European School of Radiology.
