After pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and a master’s degree in Oncology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, I applied for a PhD position at Maastricht University and the Netherlands Cancer Institute. My research interest lies in the interplay between tumour cells and the microenvironment, which provides insights that may lead to improved patient care. As such, I found a good fit within the radiogenomics and tumour profiling research line led by Zuhir Bodalal, MD, MSc. Through non-invasive molecular imaging I aim to capture the spatiotemporal dynamics of the microenvironment. I have been working on expanding our department’s molecular imaging capabilities with fluorine-19 MRI in order to visualize macrophages in pre-clinical tumour models using perfluorocarbon nanoparticles.
